Tumbelina non vuole rinunciare alla sua vita: è troppo attiva e vispa per sedersi e trascorrere i suoi giorni senza muoversi. Lei è una meravigliosa micina poco fortunata, perchè affetta da una brutta malattia. Risiede alla Valley Cats Inc., una struttura presente negli Stati Uniti che cerca di aiutare i gatti più sfortunati. La piccola Tumbelina ha stregato tutti e il personale si è mosso affinchè la gatta possa trovare una casa e una famiglia. «Adesso potrà avere una seconda possibilità e non sarà più a rischio autanasia» spiegano i dipendenti del centro. Alla gattina infatti, è stata fornita una sorta di carrozzina a rotelle che le permette di spostarsi da sola. Ma di preciso di cosa soffre Tumbelina? A spiegarlo è Debrah, una co-fondatrice del centro: «E’ affetta da ipoplasia cerebellare e purtroppo è impossibilitata a spostarsi da sola». L’ipoplasia è un decifit dello sviluppo del cervelletto, che causa nei mici un mal coordinamento fra le informazioni elaborate dal cervello e gli arti: in special modo sono interessati gli arti posteriori. Come ci spiega Yvette, un’altra co-fondatrice del centro, la situazione di Tumbelina è simile a quella di Steven Hawking, uno degli scienziati più conosciuti al mondo: una mente brillante intrappolata in un corpo che non può tenerne il passo.

We first want to thank everyone who wanted to give this little kitten a home, and there were many of you out there. It should give all rescuers a great feeling to know that such warm-hearted people are out there, ready to give a home to a special-needs animal.
Tumbalina now has a home with another special needs cerebellar hypoplasia cat who is also blind. She has a family ready to give her lots of time, patience, and any therapy she needs. We here at Valley Cats/Petopia will miss her very much, but we realize that she will also get the love and care she deserves 24/7. Tumbles proved to be a survivor and we know she will do well in the future.
Tumbles had a wonderful, dedicated foster mom and dad since her rescue from the shelter, and there are not enough words to thank them for their time, love and efforts to keep Tumbles clean and well-fed.
